In the year 2000 the Federal Ministry for Women and Health in Austria established the IVF-Fonds in order to financially aid couples with fertility dysfunction in the undertaking of IVF treatment.
The Fonds pays over 70% of the treatment and medication costs. Up to four attempts can be financed in this way but only if the couple fulfils the following criteria:

- Foreign citizen must have been working and insured in Austria for at least three months;
- The woman must not be older than 40 years and the man must not be older than 50 years;
- There must be an existing diagnosed fertility dysfunction in one of the partners
(such as blocked fallopian tubes, PCO syndrome, endometriosis or decreased sperm quality).

Your doctor at the KinderWunschKlinik will provide you an exact calculation of costs as soon as he/she knows which treatment will best suit your individual circumstances. In order to begin any IVF treatment you must be married or co-habit with your partner. Single people or partners of the same sex cannot be treated in Austria.
If in one of the four attempts a pregnancy is achieved and a positive heartbeat is shown in the foetus, but a miscarriage occurs, the Fonds will financially assist with four further IVF attempts.

If you don't fulfil the criteria for IVF Fonds then you have to pay as a private patient!
